Three carefully planned itineraries covering Cape Town highlights, the Wine Region, and the Garden Route.

Whether you have a long weekend or a full week to explore, Cape Town and its surroundings offer extraordinary variety. From the iconic Table Mountain to the rolling vineyards of Stellenbosch and the pristine coastline of the Garden Route, there is something for every traveller. Here are three carefully planned itineraries to help you make the most of your time in the Western Cape.
3-Day Cape Town City Itinerary
Day 1: Table Mountain, Bo-Kaap & V&A Waterfront
Morning: Start your Cape Town adventure with a cable car ride to the summit of Table Mountain. Arrive early to avoid the queues and enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views of the city, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Cape Peninsula. Allow at least an hour to explore the walking trails at the top before descending.
Midday: Head to the colourful Bo-Kaap neighbourhood, one of the oldest residential areas in Cape Town. Wander through the cobblestone streets lined with brightly painted houses and visit the Bo-Kaap Museum to learn about the area's rich Cape Malay heritage. Enjoy a traditional Cape Malay lunch at one of the local restaurants.
Afternoon & Evening: Make your way to the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town's premier shopping and entertainment destination. Browse the boutiques, visit the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, or simply enjoy a sundowner at one of the waterfront restaurants while watching the boats come and go.
Day 2: Kirstenbosch & Robben Island
Morning: Visit the world-renowned Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, nestled at the eastern foot of Table Mountain. Stroll through the indigenous gardens, walk the Tree Canopy Walkway (known as the Boomslang), and take in the stunning mountain backdrop. The gardens are at their most beautiful in the spring months but are worth visiting year-round.
Afternoon: Take the ferry from the V&A Waterfront to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years. The guided tour, often led by a former political prisoner, is a deeply moving and historically significant experience. Allow approximately three and a half hours for the full excursion including the ferry crossing.
Evening: Return to the waterfront and enjoy dinner at one of the many excellent restaurants along the harbour.
Day 3: Cape Peninsula, Boulders Beach & Camps Bay
Morning: Set out on a full-day Cape Peninsula drive, one of the most scenic routes in the world. Stop at Hout Bay for fresh fish and chips, then continue along the spectacular Chapman's Peak Drive with its dramatic cliff-side ocean views.
Midday: Visit Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. Take the funicular to the old lighthouse for panoramic views, and enjoy the rugged natural beauty of the Cape Point Nature Reserve.
Afternoon: On your return journey, stop at Boulders Beach in Simon's Town to see the famous colony of African penguins. These endearing creatures waddle along the beach and swim in the sheltered coves, providing wonderful photo opportunities.
Evening: End your day with a sunset cocktail on the white sands of Camps Bay, backed by the dramatic Twelve Apostles mountain range. Dine at one of the beachfront restaurants and soak up the laid-back atmosphere of this iconic beach suburb.

3-Day Wine Region Itinerary
Day 1: Stellenbosch
Morning: Drive from Cape Town to the historic university town of Stellenbosch, approximately 45 minutes from the city centre. Begin with a walking tour of the oak-lined streets, admiring the beautiful Cape Dutch architecture and browsing the art galleries and boutiques.
Afternoon: Visit two or three of Stellenbosch's premier wine estates. Recommended stops include Delaire Graff for its stunning views and art collection, Tokara for its exceptional wines and restaurant, and Spier for its family-friendly atmosphere and eagle encounters.
Evening: Enjoy dinner at one of Stellenbosch's acclaimed restaurants. The town has a vibrant food scene with everything from bistros to fine dining.
Day 2: Franschhoek Wine Tram
Morning & Afternoon: Spend the full day on the Franschhoek Wine Tram, one of the most popular wine-tasting experiences in the Western Cape. The hop-on-hop-off tram and open-sided bus take you through the beautiful Franschhoek Valley, stopping at a selection of premier wine estates. Choose from several routes, each visiting different farms. Highlights include La Motte, Rickety Bridge, and Grande Provence.
Evening: Explore the charming village of Franschhoek, often called the food and wine capital of South Africa. Enjoy a gourmet dinner at one of the many outstanding restaurants along the main street.
Day 3: Constantia Valley
Morning: Return towards Cape Town via the Constantia Valley, the oldest wine-producing region in the Southern Hemisphere. Visit Groot Constantia, established in 1685, and tour its beautiful Manor House and cellar.
Afternoon: Continue to Klein Constantia, famous for its Vin de Constance dessert wine, and Beau Constantia, which offers contemporary wines and spectacular views over False Bay. Round off your wine route with lunch at Buitenverwachting, where the setting among ancient oaks is as memorable as the food.
5-Day Garden Route Itinerary
Day 1: Cape Town to Hermanus
Morning: Depart Cape Town and drive along the stunning coastal road to Hermanus, approximately two hours away. Between June and November, Hermanus is one of the best land-based whale-watching destinations in the world.
Afternoon: Walk the scenic Cliff Path, which stretches for over 10 kilometres along the coast, and keep your eyes peeled for Southern Right whales breaching in the bay below. Visit the old harbour and the local craft market.
Day 2: Hermanus to Mossel Bay
Morning: Continue along the N2 towards Mossel Bay, stopping at Swellendam to explore its Cape Dutch architecture and visit the Drostdy Museum.
Afternoon: Arrive in Mossel Bay, the official starting point of the Garden Route. Visit the Bartholomeu Dias Museum Complex and enjoy a swim at Santos Beach, one of the warmest swimming beaches along the route.
Day 3: Mossel Bay to Knysna
Morning: Drive to Knysna, set on the banks of a beautiful lagoon flanked by densely forested cliffs known as The Heads. Take a leisurely cruise on the Knysna Lagoon or kayak through the waterways.
Afternoon: Explore the Knysna Waterfront, browse the boutiques and galleries, and sample the famous Knysna oysters at one of the waterfront restaurants. Visit the Featherbed Nature Reserve for hiking trails and incredible views.
Day 4: Knysna to Plettenberg Bay

Day 5: Tsitsikamma & Return
Morning: Drive to the Tsitsikamma section of the Garden Route National Park. Walk the suspension bridge over the Storms River Mouth, a dramatic gorge where the river meets the Indian Ocean. The scenery here is awe-inspiring, with ancient forests, rocky coastline, and crystal-clear waters.
Afternoon: If you are feeling adventurous, try the Tsitsikamma Canopy Tour, a series of zip lines through the forest canopy. Alternatively, enjoy the easy walking trails through the indigenous forest. Begin your return journey, or extend your trip with additional stops along the coast.
